Jason Brown teaches in the Counselling Psychology graduate program at Western. His research interests are in foster care and concept mapping. Jason is a chartered psychologist and registered social worker.
Mary-Lynne, founder of hiLight Learning, has an MFA from the University of Waterloo. She has been working in education designing websites and GUI for eLearning, course templates, multi-media, interactive learning objects, and self-assessment tools for k-12, higher education, and adult learning environments.
Kira is a second year master’s student in the University of Western Ontario’s M.A. Counselling Psychology program. Originally from Manitoba, Kira complete her B.A. Honours at the University of Winnipeg where her research focused on social attitudes about gender norms specifically related to stay-at-home dads. Presently, Kira’s research is concerned with understanding the experiences of socially marginalized youth in regards to the impact of social media on their relationships. Kira is excited to participate in organizing and contributing to this symposium dedicated to the experiences of the sons and daughters of foster carers, and is looking forward to bridging the literature of youth experiences with social media and its implications for sons and daughters, foster carers and policy on communicative technologies.
Sarah Serbinski, PhD, currently serves as an adjunct research professor at the University of Western Ontario. Dr. Serbinski is the author of peer reviewed publications and magazine articles about the experiences of the sons and daughters of foster parents ("sons/daughters"). Her internationally known working-bibliography on sons/daughters has been utilized by a number of helping professionals and child welfare agencies. She is the daughter of former foster parents. Dr. Serbinski has worked as a child protection worker and a research project coordinator for the province of Ontario, Canada. She has been a content expert on sons/daughters in Canada, United States and Australia. Sarah Serbinski is one of the thought providers behind this Virtual Symposium.
Colin is the Director of the IMPACT Group at the Faculty of Education at Western University. The IMPACT Group focuses on providing supports for areas related to instructional design, marketing, communications, project management, recruitment, and information technology. Colin is also a doctoral candidate in the field of Educational Leadership, with foci on information governance and strategic enrollment management within Higher Education.
